ABOUT ME

Hello and thank you for visiting!

Although this blog was initially developed for my journalism class and with the sole purpose to provide more information about the UNLV (aka. East Paradise) community in Las Vegas, I recently found a better use for it, to showcase my work/passion – photography.

I am originally from Bulgaria, but  I have not actually lived there since 1997. It is a beautiful little country though and I will never stop missing it and going back for a week or two.

After I graduated from high school in 1997 I kept busy traveling for many years. I craved adventure so I ended up working on cruise ships, flying over volcanoes in Hawaii, skydiving in Mexico, dog sledding in Alaska, scuba and deep submarine diving in the Caribbean, and exploring ancient ruins in Africa, Europe and Asia.

It was an amazing experience, but I had to come up with a different way to spend my “adult” life. So … in 2005 I went back to school and not just anywhere, but at the wonderful University of Nevada, Las Vegas where I spent many happy years obtaining both my BA and MA degrees in Journalism and Media Studies. I later obtained my Ph.D. in Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Over the past several years I have been teaching various journalism/media courses, both in person and online, including Introduction to Mass Communication/Media Foundations, Media Literacy, Visual Literacy, Social Media, Global Media, and Media & Society.

Outside of academics and photography, I enjoy traveling, hiking, and gardening. I reside in Green Valley/Henderson, Nevada with my husband, son, and two dogs.
